For 30 years, Melita Denaro has painted the landscape surrounding her childhood home in Donegal, exploring themes of exile and belonging and reflecting the memories and friendships that have sustained her.

In 1996, shortly after graduating from the Royal Academy Schools, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Since then, the relentless progression of the disease has robbed her of most of her mobility, yet she still retains enough movement in her hands to create intimate, lyrical paintings of breathtaking intensity.
