The Biographers’ Club is now accepting submissions for The Slightly Foxed Best First Biography Prize 2023. The prize of £2,500 will be awarded to the best book by a first-time biographer or memoirist in March 2024. Biographies published between 1 January 2023 and 3 December 2023 are eligible. This year’s judges are Philip Eade, Sue Gaisford and Claire Mulley.
Laurie Lee described this, his best-loved and best-known book, as ‘a recollection of early boyhood’, adding the acknowledgement that ‘some facts may have been distorted by time’. Whether or not they have, as one critic put it, ‘Cider with Rosie seems true as long as you’re reading it – and that’s the most important thing.’
