Elisabeth Russell Taylor was born in 1930 and grew up in Hampstead. She has since lived in Switzerland, Paris and South Africa, before settling back in London. She has written six novels, three short-story collections, four books for children, five works of nonfiction, as well as numerous reviews and articles. Many of her works have been translated into foreign languages, and her stories have been broadcast on BBC Radio 4. She has also completed a PhD, and taught novel writing courses at King’s and Royal Holloway.
