Cover Artist: Slightly Foxed Issue 90, Dale Bissland, ‘Shoregate Entrance, Crail’

Dale Bissland is a Scottish artist whose work displays technical accuracy alongside emotion and sensitivity.

He is completely self-taught. After studying many of the masters of the past, particularly nineteenth-century Russian landscape painters, he has learnt to paint in a manner that combines skill with craftsmanship, all set in a contemporary, realist style.

Dale paints places he knows: Scottish landscapes and personal interiors. Sometimes his paintings also include a figurative element, depicting people to whom he is close. In creating a painting he is intuitive, building each piece meticulously over many months, sometimes years.

He is primarily attracted to light, mood and emotion, and his work often hints at a narrative  that the viewer is free to develop in his or her imagination. For more of his work visit www.dalebissland.com.
