‘We give a children’s party ourselves. Very, very exhausting performance, greatly complicated by stormy weather, which keeps half the guests away, and causes grave fears as to arrival of the conjurer . . .’
Greetings from Hoxton Square, where we’ve been busy catching up with subscriptions, renewals and book orders since returning to our desks last Friday. A very happy new year to you all and special thanks to those who placed orders while the office was closed, adding to your reading lists and swelling the year’s first post bags.
As we clear our heads and open crisp new diaries for 2025, we’re turning to the writing of the imitable Provincial Lady for some words of wit and wisdom following the wonderful, yet often chaos filled, holiday season. Please read on for an excerpt and, further down the page, a small selection of other recommended reading to welcome in the new year.
With best wishes, as ever, from the SF staff
Izzy, Rebecca, Edie, Jennie & Isabel
PS A piece of happy news, the safe arrival of a new Slightly Foxed Cub, Rafe Dalby, born just before Christmas to dear office fox Jess and her husband Dan. Warmest wishes to them all.
