‘Sutcliff was a superb writer with a classicist’s grasp of the era, a poet’s eye for nature and a devilish sense of plot. Fiction this evergreen cannot fail to uplift.’ David Mitchell
Greetings from Hoxton Square where we have been busily answering phone calls and renewing subscriptions to the Real Reader’s Quarterly. Thank you very much to all of you who have already renewed. If you are yet to do so and would like to continue receiving Slightly Foxed, please do click here or give us a call in the office and we will be happy to help.
During the recent spring delivery from our printers up in Yorkshire, we were delighted to discover several new sets of our lovely Rosemary Sutcliff novels. Revisiting these upon their arrival, we were inspired to shine a light on some of our beautiful books for children.
Though Sutcliff was writing primarily for children, she never talks down to her readers. It is Sutcliff’s imaginative brilliance that gives reality to a far-off period that left its mark on almost every aspect of British life. Please scroll on to view our available children’s books.
We are also thrilled to announce that we have reinstated our Bookshop of the Quarter segment. For this spring, we talked to Tim from one of our favourite independent bookshops, One Tree Books in Petersfield, which reopened in November after it was damaged in a fire last summer. More details may be found at the bottom of this email.
With best wishes, as ever, from the SF office staff
Rebecca, Isabel, Edie, Ruth & Jennie
