November News: Old Girls & Very Old Girls

Old Girls and Very Old Girls

Ordinarily at this time of year the Slightly Foxed office would be a haven of calm. With the autumn quarterly behind us and a month to go until the winter issue and SFE are published we should be gently motoring towards December, with plenty of time to pack up Christmas cards, wrap gift issues, and take the dogs out for regular turns around the square. However, thanks to our long-term contributor and author Ysenda Maxtone Graham – who has written the most brilliantly funny and interesting book – this year it’s full steam ahead from now until the New Year.

Terms & Conditions: Life in Girls’ Boarding-Schools, 1939–1979 is officially published today in both the usual Slightly Foxed Limited Edition of 2,000 (available to Slightly Foxed subscribers and those with reserved copy numbers only) and in our new series as a Plain Foxed Edition (for anyone to buy). Early signs from the press are very encouraging. With whispers of ‘Book of the Year’, ‘the most brilliant, hilarious book’, ‘Wodehouse Prize’ and ‘I’m giving it to all my old girlfriends for Christmas’ ringing in our ears, we can barely unwrap the binders’ parcels quickly enough to keep up with demand! In true SF spirit we feel that since we’re already up to our elbows in brown paper, we may as well go the whole hog and risk yet more orders by encouraging you to read Nicola Shulman’s equally funny and interesting article on Terms & Conditions from the forthcoming Winter issue of Slightly Foxed (dispatched 15 November).
