‘Quarterlies that may make you begin to drop names like Thucydides and Thoreau with aplomb . . .’

We were already delighted when the McLean & Eakin bookshop in Petoskey, Michigan started stocking Slightly Foxed and now, with this glowing recommendation from bookseller Julie, we’re even happier!

Julie’s Periodical Finds

‘S.F.is published in the U.K. It is of the perfect size for reading in a cramped fisherman’s tent, train or a comfortably squashy bed. The lay-out is stylish and the small magazine has a lovely tactile quality. The illustrations are wonderfully clever.

Every issue contains between 15 and 18 short essays by a variety of authors expounding the virtues of books that have meant much to them, have brought them great pleasure and for one reason or another have been forgotten or undervalued.

The writing is of consistently superlative quality and the contributors who all seem to live for, on and with books are the sort of people you’d have in your dream book club and at your dinner table. The test for me is if I start reading an essay by someone I’ve never heard of, writing about a book I never knew existed and then at the end feel that my life would not be complete unless I read said book, preferably immediately.’
