Greetings from Hoxton Square, where a delightfully sunny Bank Holiday weekend has left us well-rested and ready for the merry chaos of the turn of the quarter. As we prepare for the delivery of Slightly Foxed Issue 86 and our forthcoming SFE No. 71, Toast, we’re shifting boxes and dusting the shelves – and revealing some unexpected gems lurking in our storerooms as we do so.
As long-term collectors will know, the number written inside each of our limited-edition books is in the hand of Tracey at Smith Settle who sits down each quarter and painstakingly checks, numbers and parcels-up the bound books. With each run of 2,000 books come a few unnumbered copies in case of printer error, which are then used for review purposes or kept in a cupboard in case of a postal disaster. This week we’ve unearthed a box of such overruns from the backlist, including copies of our sold-out editions of Cider with Rosie and Last Waltz in Vienna.
We’ve now listed these books for sale on our website at a special reduced price (up to £8 off each title), together with a special offer on the pair of our two earliest available editions, Basil Street Blues and The Secret Orchard of Roger Ackerley.
It is with less cheer that we announce a forthcoming price rise to our books. We’ve held the price through several increases in postal rates but now, with great reluctance, we feel we must raise the price of the packing and postage element of our book dispatches. So, despite our best efforts, from 1 June 2025 the cost, including post and packing, of our Slightly Foxed Editions, Plain Foxed Editions and Foxed Cubs will be rising by £2 per book. We do hope you understand and that this increase won’t be too off-putting – we so value your support.
Please read on for details of the various last-chance offerings from our shelves.
With best wishes from the SF office staff
