‘I speak mostly of fiction books and I read mostly fiction books, but my most comforting nighttime reading is a good memoir. I love to read what people have to say about their lives. I also love to share a new book discovery. And that is just what I found on my most recent trip to London.
While in Daunt Books, I came across a clean white paperback of Dodie Smith’s memoir, Looking Back with Love. Dodie Smith is probably best known for writing The One Hundred and One Dalmatians and most recently for the upsurge in popularity of her book, I Capture The Castle. I didn’t buy the memoir right away, though I came back to it on the shelf several times, hungry to read and own it. I was being careful about my purchases; we were only halfway through our trip and running out of money and space to bring books home. But I noted the publisher, Slightly Foxed, and decided I would look them up online . . .’
