‘Charles Lamb once told Coleridge he was especially fond of books containing traces of buttered muffins’
The popular Slightly Foxed mug is made by Hartley Greens & Co., a small firm with a distinguished history which, under its original name of The Leeds Pottery, has been producing its distinctive creamware since 1756.
Our mug is in this traditional creamware – a type of earthenware made from white Cornish clay combined with a translucent glaze to produce a delicious pale cream colour. It carries an appropriately bookish quotation – hand-lettered by the distinguished calligrapher and artist, Susie Leiper – and our endpiece of the little fox in SF’s signature dark grey. We love it and it’s certainly given tone to our office coffee-breaks. We hope you’ll love it too.
A Prince among mugs. The pleasure in using it again and again reminds one of re-reading one’s old friends from the bookshelf, always coming back to them for more.
Just to let you know that your latest mailing has prompted me to return to the fold. To mark the occasion I plan to buy one of your mugs and I will confirm all this by letter today together with cheque. I look forward to the next issue. With good wishes.
Hello Slightly Foxed! I was thrilled to receive one of your lovely mugs for Christmas one year ago. I joyfully used it every day until this morning, when it broke! I am deeply saddened to loose this treasured item. Any chance you will have more mugs for sale in the future?
Sincerely Yours,
