Spring 2017 Launch Party

Slightly Foxed & John Sandoe Books

We celebrated the launch of the Spring issue of Slightly Foxed and Slightly Foxed Edition no. 37, Hilary Mantel’s haunting memoir Giving up the Ghost at John Sandoe Books in Chelsea. We also took the opportunity to raise a glass to Sandoe’s Winter Bestseller, Terms & Conditions: Life in Girls’ Boarding-Schools, 1939–1979 by Ysenda Maxtone Graham.

Maggie Fergusson, who wrote the Preface to our new edition of Giving up the Ghost, read a beautiful passage from its pages, and Hazel Wood congratulated Ysenda on the tremendous success of Terms & Conditions. The shop was heaving with friends and contributors (not to mention books), and booksellers Johnny and Boojum were kept busy at the ringing till until the last of the wine was sipped and the contented customers had had their fill. Three cheers for good writing and happy readers!

Thank you to those who came and made merry on a Tuesday evening, and to all at John Sandoe’s. If you were unable to attend on this occasion, rest assured there will be many more parties to come.
