‘The books are seemingly designed to look like the kinds of books you’d absentmindedly pick up in an junk or antique shop somewhere on a weekend outing, then decide not to buy. Yet here they are, looking gloriously out of place in the middle of the rampantly modern and individuated shelves of a major contemporary bookshop . . .

The books are printed by Smith Settle of Yorkshire, who also do Slightly Foxed: The Real Reader’s Quarterly, and the finished product is indeed a delight. It sits happily in the hand and sits open well on the table’

The Independent

The way our printers work and how they conduct their business is important to us. Our Yorkshire printers, Smith Settle, have been with us from the beginning and are true friends of Slightly Foxed. Founded in 1981, they are among the now rare breed of craftsmen printers, producing beautiful leather-bound hand-sewn books for the likes of the Folio Society. It’s to them that we owe the consistently high standard of printing and elegant appearance of Slightly Foxed and of our books and the quarterly. You can watch a short film of Smith Settle printing and binding one of our books by following the link below.
