Gerard Stamp (b. 1955) went to school under the shadow of Norwich Cathedral, where he developed a passion for drawing and painting architecture, encouraged by an inspirational teacher. His preoccupation is with the atmosphere, the feeling of buildings. Above all it is light which fascinates him and how it can affect mood and influence composition. Although he has worked in oil and charcoal, he likes the intimacy of watercolour and pushes hard on its capabilities. Gerard has held solo exhibitions in London and in cathedrals nationwide. His work is in public and private collections around the world, including the Royal Collection.
