James Canton travels across England in the hope of seeing through more ancient eyes and coming to understand what landscape meant to those who came before us.
He visits stone circles, the West Kennet long barrow, a Crusader round church and sites of religious visions. He meets the Dagenham Idol and the intricately carved Lion Man figure. He finds artefacts buried in farmers’ fields, and reveals the history and meaning encoded in the land in which we live.
