‘One wants to go out and buy book after book . . .’

‘Dennis Silk deserves a gold medal for writing about Sheila Stewart’s little gem of a masterpiece Lifting the Latch. The pleasure I have derived from reading this, at times heart wrenching tale is almost beyond description. The only drawback to subscribing to Slightly Foxed is that one wants to go out and buy book after book, having had the appetite whetted from reading yet another fascinating article about a previously unknown author or book. If, as seems to lie the case, you are going from strength to strength, it is surely richly deserved.'

‘Long may you thrive!’

'I am disappointed if I haven’t already got a couple of the books reviewed and seem to buy a couple more most quarters. You have a good eye for an entertaining reviewer and many books, even if not ordered from Abe or Amazon, remain on a virtual wants list for visits to (vanishing) second-hand bookshops. I feel that one of the ways that nature helps us cope with advancing years is to show us that new things tend to be worse than what has gone before. Slightly Foxed is an exception. Long may you thrive!’
